Whether you’re selling your home, getting ready for guests or entertaining the next holiday bash, you can always create a warm and welcoming feel when you create a do it yourself centerpiece and add it on your dining room table.

Your Table Size Matters.

The first step to creating your very own do it yourself table centerpiece is determining the size needed for your table. Since, dining room tables come in all different shapes and sizes you can centerpiece size will vary. It’s important to make sure the table’s centerpiece is proportion to the table’s size. For example, a small arrangement on an 8-foot rectangle table will get lost once the table is set, so opt for 4 or 5 small arrangement in a line down the middle of the 8-foot rectangle table, this will create more of a statement.

How to Ground Your Centerpieces.

Consider the first layer of your centerpiece, homeowners tend to use tablecloths or runners to decorate their dining table and make it more of a focal point. You can also try flat baskets or even trays for the remainder of the centerpiece to sit on.

Use Varying Heights.

Depending on the look you’re trying to create, height may play a role in your centerpieces. While you may use one height for a more formal look, those that want to use different materials or is placing the centerpiece in an informal environment should consider varying height to attract the eye.

Refrain From Being One-Sided.

Have you ever sat a table and noticed that lettering, flowers or the “better” items throughout the arrangement where facing only one side? Guests and even buyers can sit or walk around the table, so make sure you have a centerpiece that looks good, no matter what side is visible.

Repeat Colors, Patterns & Materials.

An easy way to use multiple items in an arrangement is to strategically place the same colors, patterns and materials throughout the entire arrangement. Everything doesn’t have to be match-matchy, but the centerpiece should look cohesive once completed.

Besides Flowers.

While you can just use flowers to showcase the table, try using other elements from nature including branches, grasses or plants to create a unique look and feel. Display items that go along with your theme whether it’s pumpkins, christmas balls or seashells in clear vases. You can even use foods like peas, kernels, nuts or even clementines in the base of the vases.
