Home Staging with Feng Shui

by | Feb 18, 2015 | Home | 0 comments

In honor of the Chinese’s New Year this week,  we welcome the year of the goat by creating good energy in our home with Feng Shui techniques used to get a home sold.
By utilizing home staging with Feng Shui, you’re embracing the best of both worlds to create an appealing home for buyers. Feng Shui explains how to decorate a space to promote the best energy in the home.
This is something that could help sell your home on the market, especially if you’re targeting a heavily populated chinese community. Feng shui rearranges how chi, or energy, flows through the home. We want chi to hang with us for awhile, so here are a few things you can do improve the appeal of your space to create an ideal environment when home staging.

Remove Clutter to Promote Positive Energy

Like home staging the first thing you want to do is remove any clutter. Clutter weighs us down and it stops the energy flow throughout the house. So, begin in one room and start removing items you no longer need for the next few months while on the market.

Using a Bagua Map

Once all the old energy is removed from the home, you begin the feng shui process using a bagua, which is the energy map of your home, there is a traditional or western one, here is an example of a western one.
And what you do is lay the map over your home’s floor plan to determine which areas of your home falls among these nine squares– wealth & prosperity, fame & reputation, love & relationships, family & health, spiritual & well being, children & creativity, knowledge & wisdom, career and finally, travel & helpful people.  Now I will warn you there is some research and assessment you need to complete, but this map will help you choose what colors, furniture and accessories to use in a room. For more information on the bagua map, click here.

Arranging Furniture– Bed & Couch

Since furniture arrangement is an important part of the process remember the head of the bed should go on the farthest wall from the door, but not across from it because feet pointing out the door is considered the “coffin position”…it’s how the dead are usually removed so avoid that arrangement if possible.
Make sure not have furniture backs facing the entrance of the home or room either. The sofa should ideally be up against the wall opposite the entryway so you can see the door. Now, if you have a floating sofa try to anchor it with a console table and large accessories so you feel more secure sitting there. Plus, place a mirror on the opposite wall of the couch so you can see everything that goes on behind you.

More on Mirrors…

Speaking of mirrors they’re a great accessory to use to enhance light and energize the space just make sure the view through the mirror is appealing.

Lighten Up Your Space

Light is an important element of feng shui too…so make sure you use light material for curtains, even sheers, except if you have a large window next to the front door your energy can fly out that window, so use a heavier drape or discretely hang a clear crystal infront of the window to redirect chi and keep the energy inside.

Just Add Water

Water in the right places of the bagua will not only sooth but energize a space, so consider strategically placing a water fountain or fish tank in the area.

Avoid Sharp Angles

You should avoid having sharp corners in the home that can deplete energy, an example is a rectangle coffee table, you don’t want harsh angles pointing at people so try an round or oval one instead. Now everything in the home doesn’t have to be round, in fact you should use a mix of shapes, textures, metals, and natural elements in each room to create a balanced feel.
There are a lot of rules and “what ifs” in Feng Shui so it’s impossible to cover them all here but, I want this video to inspire you to be creative, productive and take action to have a happy and healthy home.
If you have any questions about Feng Shui, please feel free to post them below. Happy New Year to all those celebrating and of course…
Happy Selling,
