Home Staging: How to Make a Bed

by | Jul 13, 2015 | Home | 0 comments

One thing that most homeowners completely overlook when selling their home? How to make a bed.
And that’s not good – because it’s a super easy to do and your bed is the main focal point in the bedroom.
Technically, it’s a “keystone habit” – which encourages better productivity on how to make a bed.
If you don’t have a bed skirt/dust ruffle – get one. It covers up the metal bed frame (and anything you’ve got underneath there), plus it just makes the bed look cleaner and more put together.
Fitted sheet. That’s the one with the elastic on the corners. Something you should do when you are trying to sell your home is iron this once it’s on the bed. Use one of the lighter settings.
Flat sheet is next. The end with the larger hem goes at the top, and I like to put this one “face down”. What I mean is, the side with the pattern or what you would think of as the “right side” down – so the side where you can see the hems is actually up. It should be placed about an inch from the top of the bed. Make sure it’s even on both sides, and tuck in the sides/bottom (watch the video for tips on how to do this). Iron this sheet.
Get your pillows ready. Depending on bed size, you need to put pillowcases and/or shams on all the pillows. For a King bed, make sure to have a minimum of four pillows.
Spread your comforter or quilt over the bed. If you’ve got a duvet cover, the video has some great ideas on putting it on your comforter yourself. Make sure its even on all sides, and about a quarter of the way down the bed.
Fold the flat sheet over the top end of the comforter, and put your pillows on. You can add decorative pillows if you have them.
So, there you have it. Super easy to do, and it makes a huge difference in the way your bedroom looks and the way you feel.
