{"id":25646,"date":"2017-10-09T09:00:30","date_gmt":"2017-10-09T09:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/toritoth.com\/?p=25646"},"modified":"2017-10-09T09:00:30","modified_gmt":"2017-10-09T09:00:30","slug":"shop-look-neutral-halloween-decor-ideas-house-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toritoth.com\/new\/shop-look-neutral-halloween-decor-ideas-house-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"[Shop the Look] Neutral Halloween Decor Ideas + House Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This year I&#8217;ve scratched the traditional Halloween decor to opt for a more neutral color scheme that&#8217;s inspired by a dark, mysterious author.\u00a0Edgar Allan Poe, one of the founding authors of horror, terrified audiences worldwide with his works:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poem\/178713\"><em>The Raven<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Masque_of_the_Red_Death\"><em>The Masque of the Red Death<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not only does this neutral theme compliment my current style, but I can reuse a few key accessories already in the room to complete the look. \u00a0The decor is mostly limited to our entryway, living room and eat-in kitchen, since those are the main areas of the home where we spend most of our time. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">I&#8217;m loving the way it turned out! Our fireplace mantle, shelving unit and other tabletop surfaces have a mixture of old and new Halloween decor displayed in various neutrals, textures to create a dimensional masterpiece Poe would be proud of.<\/span><br \/>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HkpNGptLvSE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Refresh Old Decor<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Go through your Halloween decor to determine what can be used to create this neutral look. Many of the items that I already had from Halloween past were orange, so I used white and matte black spray paint to change the color of pumpkins, lanterns and skulls to highlight this color scheme.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Corral Accessories<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I find having random decor pieces on tabletop surfaces with no rhythm or reason doesn&#8217;t really create a seamless flow for the eye to full intake what it&#8217;s seeing. When you anchor the decor together than your eye sees the entire group, rather than each individual piece. So, how do \u00a0you do this? For Halloween, I start off decorating each area using either spider webbing, lace runners, or gauze swags &#8212; this acts as a base for the other decor to rest on and begins to group items together. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"display:none;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25771\" src=\"https:\/\/toritoth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Untitled-design-164.png\" alt=neutral halloween decor\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/toritoth.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Untitled-design-164.png 560w, https:\/\/toritoth.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Untitled-design-164-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/toritoth.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Untitled-design-164-480x270.png 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/div>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Playing with Height + Scale<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Once you have a base to anchor the decor, next you want to group items together by using varying heights. You should use small, medium and large pieces combined to create a cohesive look. Not to mention, you should make sure the items are to scale with one another. Here&#8217;s an example, I had originally ordered a 3-foot skeleton from Target to sit next to the typewriter, but the skeleton looked too small (basically the same size as the typewriter) and the set-up didn&#8217;t look quite right. So, I exchanged the skeleton for the larger 5-foot skeleton, which sets scene and makes the skeleton the focal point since it&#8217;s the largest piece in the display.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"display:none;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25766\" src=\"https:\/\/toritoth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Untitled-design-163.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/toritoth.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Untitled-design-163.png 560w, https:\/\/toritoth.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Untitled-design-163-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/toritoth.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Untitled-design-163-480x270.png 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Antiques On Display<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Speaking of displays, often times I will use old cameras, video cameras, lanterns and typewriters in my decor throughout my living room. It&#8217;s just some items I like to collect, but I thought rather than put them away for Halloween, why not use them with this theme? I find using antiques deepens the story or theme you&#8217;re trying to promote. I purchase look-a-likes from stores like, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaels.com\">Michael&#8217;s<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.target.com\">Target<\/a>, <a that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201c\u2019Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door\u2014<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber
