The truth: living in a clutter-free home takes work, consistency but most importantly a mind shift.<\/span><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25942\" src=\"http:\/\/toritoth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/The-Best-of-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">As a home stager I never really understood why a home with amazing potential, looked like a cluttered pig sty. Dirty laundry piled high, dishes in the sink, dust bunnies the size of tumbleweeds rolling across the floor, surfaces that have never seen a cleaning cloth and clutter build-up in every room can be a turn off for any potential home buyer or guest alike. I quickly discovered clutter not only has to do with a\u00a0homeowner\u2019s living habits, but their level of what I like to call &#8220;home-pride.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><span class=\"hg\"><span class=\"hw\" role=\"text\">Pride(n.)\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"sg\"><span class=\"se1\"><span class=\"se2\"><span class=\"gp ty_label tg_se2\">1.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"t_en_us1010740.001\" class=\"msThes t_core\"><span class=\"eg\"><span class=\"ex\">their\u00a0triumphs\u00a0were a source of pride<\/span><span class=\"gp tg_eg\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"synList\"><span class=\"synGroup\"><span class=\"syn t_core\">self-esteem<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">dignity<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">honor<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">self-respect<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">self-worth<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">self-regard<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">pride\u00a0in\u00a0oneself<\/span><span class=\"gp tg_synGroup\">.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"antList\"><span class=\"gp ty_label tg_antList\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"se2\"><span class=\"gp ty_label tg_se2\">2.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"t_en_us1010740.002\" class=\"msThes t_core\"><span class=\"eg\"><span class=\"ex\">take pride in a good job well done<\/span><span class=\"gp tg_eg\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"synList\"><span class=\"synGroup\"><span class=\"syn t_core\">pleasure<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">joy<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">delight<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">gratification<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">fulfillment<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">satisfaction<span class=\"gp tg_syn\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"syn\">a sense of achievement<\/span><span class=\"gp tg_synGroup\">.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Home-pride evolves when someone invests in their property, they created a sanctuary all their own that they not only enjoy, but others recognize the home&#8217;s charm and beauty giving the homeowner a self-esteem boost to continue to care for the property.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">One of the biggest problems they face is dealing with clutter and cleanliness.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When a homeowner hears those two \u201cC\u201d words, they tend to twitch and immediately get defensive about their private space. If this sounds like you, it\u2019s important to understand why you&#8217;re collecting clutter before getting organized.<\/span><br \/>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/08jP9OncLB4\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><a style=\"color: #008080;\" href=\"http:\/\/thrivewithadd.com\/about\/\">Bonnie Mincu<\/a><\/span>, a Senior Certified ADHD Coach, sheds some light on how people naturally create clutter in her recent blog post, <span style=\"color: #008080;\"><a style=\"color: #008080;\" href=\"http:\/\/thrivewithadd.com\/why-we-are-so-good-at-clutter\/\">\u201cWhy We Are So Good At Clutter.\u201d<\/a> <\/span>While she notes personality traits of those with Attention Deficit Disorder, this information also resonates with any homeowner. Here are three reasons why you have a disorganized home:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Blinded By the Clutter<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mincu writes, \u201cwe can literally not register what is right in front of our eyes, so clutter piles up without making an impact.\u201d Most homeowners are visually oblivious to <a href=\"http:\/\/toritoth.com\/home-organizing-5-items-toss\/\">clutter<\/a>, so in order to change their\u00a0mindsets home stagers tell their clients to go around the home critiquing each room as a potential buyer would, this helps them detach from the current items in the space to create more square footage in the home.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Out of Sight Out of Mind<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Besides a person\u2019s visual oblivion, Mincu mentions, a person can naturally create clutter for fear of forgetting or losing their belongings. She says, \u201cwe want to keep everything out, available and within our sight,\u201d which doesn\u2019t help when you&#8217;re trying to create a home that feels fresh, spacious and up-to-date. To combat this problem home stagers tell homeowners to start moving or purging items around the home. That not only, begins the de-cluttering process, but if you&#8217;re selling a home it puts you in a mindset to start packing. Valuables won\u2019t be forgotten or lost just packed up or removed so you have more to live a new organized lifestyle.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Clutter Overload<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mincu believes, that it\u2019s hard for a person to clear clutter because the process is overwhelming and in some cases a person may have difficulty letting go of their belongings. Homeowners that have a considerable amount of clutter can spend hours on this task dwelling over each item, \u201cmost of us want to hold on to things with the idea of I might need it someday,\u201d said Mincu. That\u2019s why this type of homeowner\u00a0needs help to sort through their belongings quickly, choosing what stays and what gets packed, donated or sold.<\/span><br \/>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TJ718kUvwOU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">All homes should be organized to live a stress-free life. It&#8217;s important to start small take one closet, one corner or one drawer and start going through your belongings. I like to start my organizing projects in the closets. A closet usually is the first to get disorganized, has items you no longer use and forces other areas of your home to be messy.
