Macram\u00e9\u00a0is all the rage this past year, I\u2019ve seen it in my travels from Mexico to the Hamptons used as art installations in dining areas, statements above a bed, hanging planters, light pendants, dream catchers, napkin rings and even as curtains.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26003\" src=\"http:\/\/toritoth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Untitled-design-202.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" \/><br \/>\n<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">mac\u00b7ra\u00b7m\u00e9\u00a0(<i>n.) is the art of knotting cord or string into a pattern.<\/i><i>\u00a0This type of art was popular in the Victorian era and again in 1970\u2019s bohemian style.\u00a0<\/i><i>Materials used in macram\u00e9 include cords made of cotton twine, linen, hemp, jute, leather or yarn.<\/i>\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">An oversized,\u00a0handmade macram\u00e9\u00a0piece of wall art\u00a0can be expensive, but\u00a0costs a fraction of the price if you take on the project yourself, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/uRgappHBL-8\">DIY macram\u00e9 wall art\u00a0tutorial video<\/a> below. Here\u2019s what you\u2019ll need:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">200 feet of\u00a03\/16 white rope\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rit\u00a0Liquid Dye (optional)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3-foot piece of driftwood (pipe, curtain rod, spindle, etc.)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Scissors\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uRgappHBL-8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Start by\u00a0cutting the rope\u00a0into\u00a018 pieces at 150 inches in length. If you plan on using color place 4 strands into the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ritdye.com\">Rit\u00a0liquid dye<\/a> (see back of bottle for instructions.)\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26004\" src=\"http:\/\/toritoth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Untitled-design-203.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" \/><\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Next grab the driftwood or whatever you plan on using as the base. Fold each strand of rope in half. Take the looped side over than under the driftwood so the loop is lying on the table. Place the excess rope from that strand through the loop to create a secure knot.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Do this for each strand of rope. Place the next strand close to the first one, so you end up with six\u00a0strands of white on either side, then add two strands of blue on either side and finish with two strands of white in the middle.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26005\" src=\"http:\/\/toritoth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Untitled-design-204.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" \/><br \/>\n<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">We will be working with a square knot. In strings of four you will place the left string over the two in the middle than take the right string place it over the left string and through the left loop.\u00a0Keep weaving the rope from left to right than right to left.\u00a0Add two square knots to each set of ropes and pull tight. We will create a pattern using square knots see video to learn more.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26006\" src=\"http:\/\/toritoth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Untitled-design-205-e1518801657181.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"315\" height=\"560\" \/><\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the center of the macram\u00e9\u00a0piece we create diamond shapes again using a single square knot. It\u2019s important to work in rows, leaving some empty space to create elongated shapes in your design.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Finish the piece with a few single square knots and cut the end of the rope to the desired size.
