Whether you’re trying to find that perfect gift for your mom, wife, sister or daughter — maybe it’s a combination of items fit snug in a gift basket that will make that special someone smile.<\/span>

\nIn order to create a gift basket for mom, it’s as easy as 1-2-3. First, you want to pick a theme. Base the theme on the gift recipient’s interests or favorite things. Next, you want to pick all the items you’d like to display in your basket. There should be a combination of different sized objects large, medium and small to place inside the basket. Finally, you want to start building the basket keeping in mind mom’s interest and design style.<\/span><\/p>\n

Deciding On a Theme<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Let’s take for example, if your mom loves entertaining outdoors — we can narrow down a few key items that will get her ready for summer. \u00a0I think the items chosen in this basket could also be for a traveling mom to remind her of a past tropical vacation as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Choosing Items<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n
We know she can’t wait until her summer parties to begin, so here are a few items to include in her basket to up her hosting status. All of these items were found at Pier 1 Imports.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

  • String lights<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Tropical pillows<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Flamingo wine glasses<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Napkin rings<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Flamingo napkins<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Pineapple-basil candle<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Melamine plates<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Tropical placemat<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Copper drinkware<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Once you have the items you’d like to show off in your gift basket, next you’ll want to find a vessel that will fit all the items into and matches the theme. Your basket must be just the right size, not too big or too small in order to fit the items inside. Pictured above we chose a basket with handles that could be used to take to the beach or just hold magazine — see how it’s multi-functional? Look for a vessel like this get creative. You can use lanterns, beverage tubs, plant stands and totes rather than a traditional basket.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Building the Basket<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Every basket should begin with a base — try using tissue paper or raffia filler to prop up the items in the basket. If using pillows like us place one on the bottom instead, this way mom isn’t getting gypped. We want the filler to be more than halfway up the basket. In order to create a backdrop we want to add the tallest items first, rest them against the back of the basket. We can put the pillow in the back with the placemats and plates resting up against that.<\/span>
    \nConsider where to place the bulky items next, like the pineapple ice bucket. By determining where these items will go, you’ll ensure there will be enough space in the vessel for them and won’t have to continually rearrange items to make them fit. It’s important to balance out the basket so make sure to alternate sides and add symmetry as your placing items inside the basket.<\/span>
    \nLeave the smallest items in your basket for last, these are the easiest to tuck into the front and fill any gaps you may have remaining.\u00a0<\/span>
