It’s time to refresh your home for the new year, are you ready to start organizing? Every year I tour my home after the holidays and make a list of all the projects (big or small) I’d like to focus on to improve our quality of living. These projects will then be tackled throughout the year (sometimes it’s longer) and I decide where to start based on the location of the project, if it will improve a main living area in the home or based on the size of the project and how it will create a “domino effect” by helping me get other areas organized as a result of completing that one project.
On the to-do list is organizing our new shed we recently bought from Stoltzfus Structures. This Pennyslvania based Amish company pre-fabricated the shed then brought it to our home to assemble. The 10 x 20 shed came complete with electric, a work station, transom window dormer, 2x windows and doors, plus rafter storage.
Inside the shed we decided to add a wall to section of the right side off the shed between the double doors and window to create a she-shed. Typically constructed in a backyard, these tiny spaces are perfect for women who want some space to practice a hobby or unwind. Click here or on the image below to watch the video of how we created our she-shed on a budget.
With one side of the shed complete, the other side will hold storage and be used as a work station for crafts and other DIY projects. But, as of now there are tools, equipment, wingback chairs (that I want to reupholster) and other odds and ends blocking us from utilizing this space. That’s why in 2016, we’re organizing the storage area of the shed!
The first thing that MUST be done is to purge any items we haven’t or won’t be using anytime soon. I usually try to purge items from my home two to four times a year this way we can maintain clutter and make room for other items we are using and have room to grow. Some storage solutions and organizing products we’ll be using in this space include:
- Clear Storage Bins from Target
- Grey Elfa Track System
- Ladder & Wheelbarrow Hook
- Steel Commercial Shelving Unit
- Pegboard Accessories from Home Depot
- Mobile Work Bench from Home Depot
